Google toolbar Beta 5 trouble with New Tab, thumb view for Firefox

 

I recently installed Google Toolbar Beta 5 in my firefox, and when I opened up a new tab, I was surprised with the usual default blank white page in Firefox, instead of the new thumb view like Opera’s fast dial. Nothing happens, usual blank, so thinking a little I realize that should be and addon inherent to tabs or home pages, and I figured out that the culprit was Tab Mixing Plus.

So if you have Tab Mixing Plus installed before Google Toolbar Beta 5 you could expect to have this issue.

Once TMP was disabled and restarted firefox finished the Google toolbar installation.

Windows xp setup ACPI key, F10 F2 F6 F5 y otras teclas de función

Durante la instalación puede usar varias teclas de función para activar ciertas características y comandos. En la lista siguiente se detallan las teclas de función, lo que hacen y cómo se pueden usar.
Se pueden usar tres teclas cuando se carga el programa de instalación y cuando se le pide que presione la tecla de función F6 para instalar la interfaz estándar de equipos pequeños (SCSI, Small Computer System Interface) de terceros y los controladores de las controladoras de host:

•
F5: para la selección de la capa de abstracción de hardware (HAL) o del tipo de equipo

•
F6: para instalar controladores de controladoras de host y SCSI de terceros

•
F7: para ejecutar el programa de instalación sin Interfaz avanzada de configuración y energía (ACPI)

Cuando aparece la pantalla de bienvenida, se pueden usar las teclas de función siguientes:

•
F2: para iniciar automáticamente el proceso de Recuperación automática del sistema (ASR).

F10: para omitir las pantallas de menú y cargar la Consola de recuperación

Durante la instalación en modo de interfaz gráfica de usuario (GUI), se pueden usar las siguientes teclas de función:

    "While the FAT32 file system can support drives up to a standard theoretical size of 2 terabytes, (it 'can' be jury-rigged under Windows Millennium Edition to support partitions of up to 8 TB), Windows 2000 Professional and XP Professional cannot FORMAT a volume larger than 32 GB in size using their native FAT32 file system.

Agregar un disco de 80GB o mas a una PC con BIOS antiguo

En este caso un Disco Wester Digital de 80GB WD800BB IDE PATA agregado a una Mobo VXPRO con un micro Pentium 120 Bios Release date 1997

Se colocaron los jumpers en modo cap limit, ::;:; y se colocó en la configuración de la BIOS en en USER y se cargaron los valores de CHS para 8 GB luego se utilizó el data life guard para formatear luego se procedió a instalar windows 98 normalmente.
Finalizado esto, se removió el jumper del cap limit y en otro equipo se particionó y formateo los restantes 70 GB con Fat 32, luego se reconectó al equipo.

Cómo determinar el nombre de un dispositivo

1) Viendo físicamente el nombre del chip y de algún nombre en la placa o adhesivo en ella
2) Si esto no es posible, durante el post puede verse por unos segundos placas PCI, agp, etc
3) Si es de video adicionalmente podemos hacer un debug, luego d en la dirección C000:0000 e ir probando por ej: C000:0040 C000:00ff
4) Usar Everest o similares; también permite ver lo anterior en Debug - Video Bios
5) Ir a las propiedades del hardware y buscar el PCI Vendor y device

If you are jealous of your geeky linux friends that have Beryl running under linux, you should check out Yod'm 3D, a small application for Windows XP / Vista that will give you a decent substitute for the "Desktop Cube" effect.

Without further ado, here's a nice screenshot of it in action.

In the screenshot, you'll notice the stars in the background. If you want to customize the background picture, you can replace the jpg image in the program folder:

If you want each desktop to have it's own wallpaper, you can change the wallpaper for that desktop by switching to the desktop and then set the wallpaper the normal windows way.

I found that the transitions are just a little bit slow (especially on older hardware), but tolerable. I probably wouldn't use this on a regular basis, but it's a nice piece of eye candy to show off. Note that this is the same guy that made the Visual Tooltip software I wrote about before.

Escanear una red en XP, Scanning a network using cmd for ping find

Mi vecino me pidió "prestada" Internet asi que conectamos un cable a nuestro Switch, hoy me preguntaba a mi mismo cuál es su IP pero sin usar una herramienta externa, entonces me puse a jugar y escribí este comando, debido a que el For sí soporta incrementos de a pasos dados en Windows XP/2000/vista:

For /L %i in (1,1,255) do ping -a -n 1 -w 50 10.0.0.%i

Esto lo que hace es un único Ping a la dirección 10.0.0.n donde n va de 1 a 255

hasta acá esta bueno para mi, pero tiene el tema que te va a tirar 255 resultados y yo a los 8 pings me cansé, y claro, despues te vas a volver loco buscando cual dio paquete perdido 1 y cual 0, entonces, recordando a los viejos bat, y los errorlevels, deberia ir el ping y abajo if errorlevel==0 echo IP, pero el For no soporta ejecutar 2 comandos cuando lleva el parametro /L, y usar dos bat es poco elegante.
asi que llegué a este otro:

For /L %i IN (1,1,255) do ping -w 50 -n 1 10.0.0.%i >> resultados.txt

donde tenes que abrir el txt y poner buscar: recibidos = 1 , pero es feo, asi que no me gustó y quedé en esta, que te abre el notepad con los resultados filtrados:

cmd /c @for /L %i IN (1,1,255) do ping -w 50 -n 1 10.0.0.%i | find "TTL=" && @ECHO %i >> resultados | notepad resultados

el problema del ping es que no siempre devuelve 0 cuando encuentra una máquina que responde.

Explicacion de los parametros:

cmd /c ejecuta un comando y vuelve, es para que no nos abra el notepad cada vez que encuentra una compu, el For /L nos permite darle al for un rango de números y el step, ping -w50 es el tiempo de espera en milisegundos, n 1 es la cantidad de paquetes que tiene que enviar. Find busca el TTL cuando responde y muestra esa línea, y para que quede mas bonito, al terminar ( cmd /c) abre un notepad con los resultados. o sea que el más práctico es:

cmd /c for /L %i IN (1,1,255) do ping -w 50 -n 1 10.0.0.%i | find "TTL=" && @ECHO %i

Esto nos devuelve la siguiente pantalla:

Respuesta desde 10.0.0.2: bytes=32 tiempo<1m TTL=64
Respuesta desde 10.0.0.3: bytes=32 tiempo<1m TTL=128
Respuesta desde 10.0.0.4: bytes=32 tiempo<1m TTL=128
